Cottage Bath Inspiration

Our “cottage” is a manufactured home, 1708 sq. ft., which is half a mile (as the crow flies) from the Pacific Ocean. We can’t see the ocean; however we can hear the waves roar from our back deck as well as our bedroom.

When we moved to our “cottage” near the beach I made sure that we packed some of the left-over interior paint from our old house and a really cool mirror which I had purchased on clearance from RossĀ©. The paint was a greenish-blue color which would work nicely to cover our wallpapered bathroom walls. After I purchased the mirror, I antiqued it by rubbing some pewter and silver gilding on it; however it ended up being too taste specific to use in the bathroom of the home we were selling so I got to bring it with me when we moved.

I purchased some good primer which inhibits mold/mildew (a huge problem in this wet climate)and primed over all the “mobile home” wallpapered walls. It did take 2-3 coats to get a nice white base to paint on. The interior satin paint floated on nicely. We took the hinges and handles off of the cabinets as well as the lovely (dripping with sarcasm) brass light fixture and we spray painted them all a pewter/silver color. I won’t go into all the horrible details of having to rip the old mirror off the wall (it was glued with a ton of glue as well as the wood which framed it). I put everything back up, added some seashells and I have a cottage guest bath which is relaxing and simple. As money allows I’ll replace the light fixtures and bathroom faucet; but for now it is just fine.

Below are some beautiful cottage baths which are much more eloquent than mine; however they should inspire you to get out the paint brush and visit some thrift stores or garage sales. Enjoy!

Cozy Bath
An antique mirror and curvy sconces bring a vintage feel this bathroom, where the homeowner installed hexagon-tile flooring and a pedestal sink to evoke another era.

Old-Fashioned Bath
A claw-foot bathtub gives this cottage bathroom vintage style. A freestanding mirror, antique fan, and stacks of freshly laundered white towels provide additional comfort.

Black and White
Bright white beaded board softens a dark and modern vanity. Identical sinks, mirrors, and light fixtures add balance to this country cottage bathroom.

Simply Perfect
In a look that’s straight out of an upscale home furnishing catalog, the white beaded board wall, pedestal sink, and silver sconces spell cottage style with a hint of elegance.
