Beach Decorating Transition from Summer to Autumn

Old Shutters Become Beachy Shelf!

We are firm believers in reusing what we can to create new items around our home. We were excited to see how Going A Little Coastal got creative and transformed a set of moon & star shutters into a delightful shelving unit; which was then used to decorate her front porch this past summer . . .

A moon & star shutter was cut in two then made into this shelf!

Seashells added to the birdhouses add a bit of “beach” embellishment . . . Aren’t they adorable?

and then the shelf transformed into an Autumn display by adding sunflowers & pumpkins!

Autumn Mantel with Coastal Flair

Simplifed Autumn Mantels with Coastal Flair

Fireplace mantels are like an artist’s blank canvas – they are a focal point in any room that may be quickly and easily changed on a whim. We’ve gathered together a few of our favorite Autumn mantels; which all offer a simple style and a bit of coastal flair . . .

One Nutty Girl has been enjoying her family’s newly taken photograph which hangs over the mantle and she kept her Autumn decorating simple by adding two white pumpkins, a piece of driftwood from her summer display as well as starfish to throw a little coastal theme in
there too!

Going a Little Coastal kept a few of her starfish, added some berry twigs to the curly willow; swapped out the glass candle sticks for some wooden ones and also tried to keep the overall mantel very simple.

Marie’s Maison created a muted and simplified decorative expression for Autumn; which we love . . .

A Peek Inside: Bixby & Ball – The Coastal Life

Melissa of Seagrass Interiors is a twenty-something interior designer living in Southern California.
I find it extremely interesting that she lives in a
house built by Charlie Chaplin for his crazy mother in the 1920’s.  Melissa is working on the house and making it her own while preserving its
original roots.

In Melissa’s spare time she just opened a retail store! Her dream come true is called Bixby & Ball and is in a little historic cottage built in 1924, located in the design district of Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach, California.

Melissa explained, “I have had the extreme luck, fortune,
blessing of meeting my business partner, Betsy. We have both had the
idea of having a retail space, stored in the back of our brains for a
long time now. For me, I thought the reality of my dream coming true
was pretty far into the future. Over a glass of wine with Betsy, Bixby & Ball was born.”

Bixby & Ball Founders – (L to R) Betsy and Melissa

This killer combo of ingenuity, determination, and love for all things
coastal chic inspired the creation of Bixby & Ball. Together, they
have hand selected their favorite elements of coastal living to create a
one-stop shopping experience for customers. Housed in the first cottage built on Cedros Avenue in the 1920’s and
inspired by a deep family history of entrepreneurialism, Bixby &
Ball celebrates the past while creating its own story.

I’m really yearning to take a trip to visit this FABULOUS COASTAL STORE as it looks exactly like my cup of teahow about you??

Autumn Starfish Craft

Autumn Starfish Craft Project: Felt Inspiration

Drawn in by the oranges, reds and browns of the changing foliage, Bear Dance Crafts, shared this beautiful Autumn starfish photograph on their blog recently. It’s definitely something a little different to celebrate the Autumn season; which we LOVE!

Inspired by their starfish photo, they decided to create Autumn Starfish out of orangey Wool Felt. “Of course, starfish come in many other colours. They could be embellished too… fancy stitches, sequins, whatever you can dream up. I have left my starfish simple.”
