A Seashell Pink Retreat

“A Manhattan family make this sophisticated seaside sanctuary their own with a little help from a noted designer,” states Better Homes & Gardens.

Suzie and Ainar Aijala wanted a calm retreat to escape to on weekends as well as during the summer. They found such a place along the bay in Mantoloking, NJ.

Suzie and designer friend, Jennifer Watty, created a sophisticated yet comfy decor by incorporating a neutral palette with seashell pink accents.  “We have an open-door policy at our house. The house is always full,” Suzie says.

The living room overlooks the bay and features two curved sofas. Pretty pink pillows really perk up the room. The walls, floors and large furniture pieces are all neutral so visual interest was added with patterns, pillows and other accent pieces throughout.

Seashell pinks and the lightest sherbet-orange tones keep the decor from feeling stuffy.

A seashell mirror and shell-covered chandelier are definitley seaside casual yet combine splendidly with the refined furniture. Seashell accents keep the beach vibe balanced, sophisticated yet casual.

The pink tones take center stage in the retreat’s dining room. Each dining room chair was slip covered and  accented with mother of pearl buttons.

The sitting room features brightly patterned armchairs and colorful pillows were added for balance.

The master bedroom actually breaks from the seashell pink color palette and focuses on calm and serene; which is created by using very soft green colors and light patterns.

The color scheme even extends to the deck and dock areas for enjoying the coastal lifestyle.
