Blowing the Birthday Candles out!

A Camera, A Birthday Cake and A Sunset!

Well, my 46th birthday has come and gone.  Boy what a fun two days I’ve had!  The hubby and Liz surprised me with new sheepskin slippers (hey, I live in the Pacific Northwest and my feet get cold) and I got my new camera on Wednesday (perfect timing for my birthday).  Here she is,  isn’t she pretty??  I haven’t named her yet, but give me time and I’m sure I will after the bonding time is over. I’ve been researching for months and months about cameras and took the jump into a Digital SLR and I’m so happy with my selection. The hubby encouraged me to splurge on the telephoto lens, so who was I to say no?!  I want to learn how everything works so I have lots of reading to do still.  It was great that the automatic mode made it possible to start taking great photos within minutes of unpacking it.

In other birthday news,  my brother and sister-in-law from California came up for a visit.   They sure surprised me….they went out of their way to pick up a birthday cake for me from Baker & Spice Bakery in Portland, OR. and it was both beautiful and delicious. Thank goodness they only put a few candles on it ’cause we might of started a fire!!

We grabbed the new camera, packed into the car and then went to the beach after dinner.  We were supplied with a lovely, but cool, sunset.

The next morning, I baked my crustless quiche for breakfast and everyone really enjoyed it…as you can see from Liz’s face!

The family took me for a long beach drive and I snapped lots and lots of pictures on Thursday.  I’ll be editing them for a while, but promise to share soon.

This perfect Pacific Sand Dollar (pictured above) was a real treasure as most of them this time of year are broken or just not around.

I was excited to see this photo of Sandpipers.  They are so tiny and almost all of my previous photos never show any of their markings.  I think I’m going to really like this new camera :O)

I hope you’ve had a great week, I sure have!!

Have a fabulous weekend, my beachy friends.

Old Navy Beach Style Outfit

My Beach Style ~ What’s yours?

I don’t know if it’s the actual store name, Old Navy, but I sure love their soft, relaxed and casual styles.  Since moving to the beach my wardrobe is all about comfort, comfort and more comfort! Comfort can still be stylish and I still must have a bit of fun (like the scarf!). This outfit is my beach style to a tee!

Capiz Shell Mobile

A Lovely Surprise: A Capiz Shell Mobile

My darling daughter, Liz, knew that I’d been wanting to make or buy a capiz shell mobile…so guess what!?!? She surprised me with a capiz shell mobile!!  It was a “just because I love you mom” gift which really made my day!! oh heck, it made my whole month.

We hung the capiz shell mobile in our media room where we have a ceiling fan. The fan produces a soft breeze which lightly moves the shells around and the light through the window offers a soft glow.

This simple addition to our beach cottage  provides a lovely effect which I love – love – love!  Hope you’re enjoying your week.

Sand Castle Contest

Sand Sculptures along the Summer Seashore

Wow, the weekend flew by and I was so busy on Monday that it’s Tuesday again – eh gads! LOL! Where does the time go!?!

The family jumped in the Jeep on Saturday afternoon and headed south to Long Beach for the annual Sandsations Sand Sculpture Contest. What a beautiful day for driving along the beach and enjoying  ocean breezes, kites, horses, unique sand sculptures, and family.

The beach was filled with talented sculptors including many families. This festival, in it’s 27th year, is so great because it is open to all ages and skill levels.  It’s wonderful to see all the families and friends “playing” in the sand.  As you can see below, there were many whimsical sand sculptures this year.

Here is the hubby and I enjoying the beach lifestyle. Life’s good!

There were so many Sand Sculptures to choose from; however my personal favorite was this adorable hippo which was sculpted by a mom and her kids.  Isn’t it adorable?

We can’t wait for next month when Long Beach hosts the Washington State International Kite Festival.  Don’t worry if you aren’t in the area as we’ll take lots of photos for you (with the new camera which I ordered today for my birthday gift!!!).  Have a lovely day.
