Several years ago, Clora Kelly and Helge Skibeli, fell in love with a brown and dark beach cottage on New York’s Shelter Island. The cottage was originally built in the 1880′s and then enlarged a bit around 1930 but was in horrible condition when this couple discovered it. “One good party and the place would have collapsed.”
After structural repairs were completed, Clora and Helge, knew that light and bright was the goal of their renovation. Our favorite areas of this week’s beach house tour are the porch which was added to the beach cottage around 1930 as well as the claw-foot bathtub and Carrara-marble tile floor in the master bathroom.
