Lighthouse Jack O Lantern

Happy Beachy Halloween!

Boo! It’s that scary time of year again – Halloween. We don’t do much for Halloween since the kids are grown (except watch Beetlejuice) but we do love to look at the creativity of pumpkin carvers.  We gathered together some of our favorite coastal-inspired jack o’lanterns to share today.  Some of them are pretty amazing.  We hope you have a fun day and if you have kids a word of advice…enjoy the time with them now because they’ll be grown up before you know it :O)

“Autumn Chills” Color Palette Inspires Room Designs

Today’s post is proof positive that Autumn and Beach hues can coordinate beautifully.  This Autumn Chills color palette from Design-Seed.com combines blue/gray colors with beige and tan beautifully; but how do you incorporate these colors into your room’s interior design?  It may be easier said than done….let’s see what we can come up with.

It’s honestly amazing how many interior design combinations can be created by using these five shades of Autumn!  Some rooms are soft and feminine yet some are elegant and very dramatic.  Do you like any of these for your home?  We personally like the lighter shades of gray, blue and, of course, white.

Pumpkin Island Lighthouse ~ Maine

{Travel & Leisure} Pumpkin Island Lighthouse

Since we have always lived along the west coast, we honestly had never heard of Pumpkin Island Lighthouse; which is located in Maine.  Of course, we just “had” to share it with you this week since Halloween is in a few days. This little island and lighthouse are simply charming and have just been added to our must visit list.  Have you visited this area of the country?

Pumpkin Island Lighthouse ~ Maine

The light was built in 1854 along with an attached 1.5 story, colonial-cape style keeper’s quarters, this site also hosts a brick oil house and a boathouse.  In the nineteenth century, this area was heavily traveled by vessels carrying lumber as well as summer pleasure craft.  An automatic beacon near Pumpkin Island continues today as an aid to navigation; however this site remains under private ownership and is closed to the public.

Fog & Sea Candle Holders

{Coastal Crafts} Seawashed Fog & Sea Candle Holders

I love words…I don’t know why, but I’ve always been fond of books, playing word games and words or letters framed as art.

I recently shared some adorable seashell tags that I purchased from our friends at Sea Shells by Sea Shore with you…well, I think I’ve got a new addiction – TAGS!   When I stopped by to visit Kerrie at sea cottage recently, she had her new word tags available for sale in her store.   Words printed on tags…come on, there was no way for me to resist, especially since they were all beachy words like Fog, Sea, Calm, Coast, Tide and more!

Do you remember those Autumn Candle Holders that Liz & I made last week?  We also made some beachy candle holders too.  We cleaned out and re-used some old candle jars and filled them with dried split peas, black beans and tiny seashells.  A tea light candle sits on top. We strung a tag on each jar with jute….cute, huh?

Fog & Sea Candle Holders

It’s so much fun displaying things on my crystal candlestick/pillar candle holders. I’ve had them for years (I believe they were from Costco) and I use them every season during the year.  An extra one is displaying a tiny pumpkin on it in the den right now.  Oops, back to  this little project….

Dig around your cupboard for things you can use for layering and old glass jars of any kind will work!  Have fun using tags to decorate bottles, picture frames or whatever – we’re having a lot of fun with our tags…and you won’t believe how we’re planning to use Kerrie’s tags for Christmas this year!
