The best part about our job is being able to review coastal products as well as provide you, our valued readers, giveaways and specials. We were honored to be recently contacted by Matt and Jill Beaudoin of Mystic Knotwork who wanted to see if we were interested in reviewing their newest product…Monkey Fist Curtain Tie Backs. Of course, we quickly said, “Yes!”.
Mystic Knotwork sailor bracelets are familiar to most people in coastal Connecticut and Rhode Island because Matt’s grandfather was making and selling them throughout the area since the 1960’s. Matt and his family continue the tradition and brought it back to full time about two years ago. The Beaudoin’s are members of The International Guild of Knot Tyers.
The curtain tie back was created as a special order for a customer and will be available for purchase soon – if you want a pair now, just contact Mystic Knotwork and they can make you a special order too!
The first thing I thought when I unwrapped the monkey fist curtain tie backs was, “What excellent workmanship…they’re beautiful.” The tie backs are first rate quality, with a long enough amount of cord to go around a large amount of drapery. I tried them on both my heavy chocolate brown velvet drapes as well as the light white sheers we have. The tie backs looks wonderful on both types of fabric and worked easily on both. You can wrap the rope around or loop the fist through until you create the look you are wanting. Mystic Knotwork’s commitment to quality could be seen in this handmade treasure.
“My wife and I continue the traditional skill of turning cord into art. Most well known are the white sailor bracelets, but with my wife and daughter we have added a modern flair adding color and patterns. In addition to sailor bracelets, we also make rope mats, table top centerpieces , wedding favors, and macramé work. My wife’s macramé is so popular people have actually bought it right off her neck!” explained Matt.
Sailors, during long voyages, spent time creating art from the ropes, twine, and line that surrounded them. Sailors knots can be decorative or functional. Mystic Knotwork currently has the widest selection of the classic sailor knot bracelets as well as a large selection of home decor accents.
We love our Monkey Fist Curtain Tie Backs and know that you’ll be more than happy with any products purchased from this dynamic family business. I live in Maine three miles from the ocean and I love lighthouses and anything that has to do with the sea.
I see a lot of the local fishermen wearing the nautical sailor’s bracelets and I would love to be the winner of one of the highly crafted colored one in Mystic Knotworks studio.

I actually found their curtain tie backs before the giveaway! I’m working on a new curtain design and those would work beautifully
I love that dog knot ball. My pups would love that!
Ashley,
The ‘dog toss’ is made with a tennis ball inside, so it floats if you play with your dog by the water like Jill and I play with Sasha. There is a picture of Sasha bringing back her dog toy on our ‘contact us’ page.
FYI, she’s a Mongolian Monkey Spaniel, or at least that’s what we tell people. In truth, she’s a rescue dog that we saved about 6 years ago.
Thanks for looking. That is my favorite knot to tie, but mostly because I use one with my friend every day.
I have always love Nautical knots and really loved the store. So much to choose from at there store. While I love the bracelets the Knot coasters would be my favorite!
