A Coastal Summer: Beach Tones Color Palette

Welcome back to the last day of our “A Coastal Summer” week of articles.  I thought we’d wrap things up with this divine Beach Tones color palette from our friends at Design-Seeds.com.  Our handy-dandy Chip It! application from Sherwin Williams has provided us with the paint/colors needed to create this palette in the real world.

Soft greyish white and sandy hues take you to the seashore when used on your home’s interior walls or floors.  Accent your surroundings with shades of blue and throw in a pop of deep red for visual interest.  I personally love to use black to “ground” things in my interior designs but any darker shade, such as the polished mahogany hue above, will do the trick.

Let’s give it a try…

Not a fan of red? Why not try a beautiful raspberry and/or shades of pink for accents?

This is probably my favorite personal style — the sand colored walls create instant warmth!

It’s amazing how many different styles can be created by using one basic palette.   Depending on your preference, you can create a modern beach home space or a cozy cottage feel.  Experiment with colors, fabrics, textures when decorating – you won’t be sorry!

So, which room above is your favorite space?

Have a fabulous weekend.

A Coastal Summer: Boatshed Style

I’ve always had a love for the humble boatshed and could see myself living in one .. next to the water, watching the boats go by, listening to the sound of the water.  Painted white with simple furniture , a touch of blue, shells, driftwood & vintage marine things.

These are some images I’ve had in my scrapbook for a long time from the days when I collected pictures from magazines, as well as  some from boatshed chic.  Beth lives in a boatshed on the south coast of New South Wales and collects some interesting finds from thrift shops in her area.  I love her decorating style.

It’s amazing how a few new decor accents can brighten up your beach house for summertime.  A new pillow, whimsical sign or serving tray can pull a room together.  Sheer, flowing curtains are always an easy upgrade or how about a fresh coat of paint with a new driftwood sailboat to liven things up.  Be creative and think outside of the box!

Letter from the Editor: Celebrating a Coastal Summer

Happy Summer everyone! As I sit here, it is gently raining outside with temperatures in the mid-50’s.  Other parts of the United States are experiencing heat waves.  Good thing that humans are adaptable because you just never know what you’re going to have to deal with in regards to weather.

Most of us love summer, especially since summer and beach houses  go hand-in-hand.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas time, however really love keeping that summer feeling around all year long.  How am I accomplishing this decorating feat?

Over the past few years I’ve added white sheer curtains on just about every window in the house; purchased off-white couch/loveseat covers; painted bookshelves and kitchen cabinets white and will eventually have whitewashed floors throughout the majority of our living space.

Our home boasts Sea Glass Blue accent walls and a lovely shade of Sand covers remaining walls.  Even on dreary Washington Coast days, it feels a bit like summer throughout our beach house.

Coastal Cocktail Bar Design Inspiration

A Cocktail Bar and a Nautical Wall

A Cocktail Bar and a Nautical Wall — I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am so glad that this week is over.   I am now patiently waiting for my phone to ring, and hoping that it’s Tom to let me know that he is on his way to pick me up.  Then we are headed to Moss Bay Distillery for a Friday afternoon of fancy cocktails and sea food sliders on their deck to watch the sun sink into the Pacific.

One more thought on nautical charts – spotted this idea at Pottery Barn.  What do you think?  The chart wall art is a 8’h x 5″w decal!

How much fun would this little cocktail corner be?  A bar cabinet – doesn’t have to be expensive or even very large, could serve many purposes.  I like the look of this painted black one with the chart, a beautiful antique wooden one would also be amazing….

Then all you would need (besides the party!) is great cocktail glasses…

fabulous bar tools,  a supply of fancy liquor,

and fun cocktail linens!

Add some hooks, or better yet, boat cleats – and you will be set!   Don’t get me started, I could think of a thousand ways to use this idea….

Ever since I have been in outside sales or self-employed, I try to allow myself Friday afternoons off – doesn’t always work out, but I try.  Have a great weekend everyone!
