After a year and a half, our 10 Custom Headboard Ideas article is still our number one all-time read article. I had originally written that article because I, myself, needed a headboard — do I have a headboard yet? Nope! lol. Guess I need some more DIY Headboard ideas to get me motivated, how about you?
Better Homes & Garden is a great go-to source for headboard ideas, especially if you want to do it yourself. They recommend, “Increase the cozy factor of the bedroom by covering it in less than three yards of vibrant fabric with plush padding.” The sample photo below would work perfect for a beach house – the wave fabric used is so fun!
Check out their DIY Fabric Headboard instructions.
Country Living offers this adorable Birdhouse Headboard which they recommend for a child’s room, but I actually like the whimsy it provides for any cottage-style bedroom. What do you think?
I have a bit of a crush on this slipcovered headboard idea too. Country Living shares, “This scalloped headboard is slipcovered in linen to match the all-white bedding, creating an inviting cloudlike retreat“.
I never seem to tire of the “shutters as headboard” style…this one is very charming! I had never thought about using coordinating colors….you?
Of course this one is one of my personal favorites as you guys know how I love a light and feminine beach cottage style.
It doesn’t seem to matter if you use the doors vertically or horizontally — they are just charming as a headboard!
For some reason (maybe because the wood looks like something that washed ashore?) I really like this floor-to-ceiling design.
This one is pretty adorable too, especially with the ‘awake my soul’ wording. I’ve often wondered why photos and keepsakes strung on rope with clothes pins is so cute. – Do you know why?
If a padded headboard is more your style then how about using leftover fabric and wood squares to create this headboard?
