Cottage Stairs

Pinterest: Favorite Cottage Stairs & Steps

Cottage Coastal loves to use Pinterest and their “Stairways and Steps” pin board is our featured board of the week!  If you are lucky enough to have a charming stairway in your beach cottage then you may enjoy the charm of this week’s pins.  Our beach cottage is one level (which my knees appreciate) however these painted steps are more than divine in my book.

Stairs are far from being just functional these days.  They can be beautiful, whimsical and practical; number your steps, paint them different colors, create bookshelves in the unused space beneath.  Here’s a few of our favorites….

Beach House Tour by HomeBunch

Shingled Beach House: Designed by Mitch Wise

Beach House Tour by HomeBunch

I’m not sure if you’re noticing with my posts but I’m really missing summer lately. It was supposed to be warmer this weekend, but it was not. We had our fireplace on the whole time, which made everything feel much cozier and nicer, but I’m still missing the sunshine, the beach, the water.

Seeing this beach house bring good memories of hot summer days, when we all go to the beach and enjoy a couple of hours hearing the waves.

Well, I guess we’ll have to wait a little longer for that, but at least we can enjoy this beautiful beach house and dream with summer. Shall we?

Designed by Mitch Wise. Photos by Richard Steinberger.

And this is my dream porch… :-)

Shingle Style

Wouldn’t you love to call it “home” and have the beach only a few steps away?

Star Light Star Bright

Stunning architecture.

Coastal

Beautiful outdoor light fixture.

Living &  Dining

Bright and sunny.

My Kind of Living Room

I love when the furniture is placed closer together in a living room. It makes any conversation feel more intimate.

Decor

Delicate.

Dining Room

The dining room feels very informal. The rug is from Pottery Barn.

Kitchen

Perfect for a beach house! I love the splash of color added by the butcher block.

Sources: The potrack is from Howard Kaplan. Countertops: Carrara marble. The cabinets are custom- a cabinet shop in Green Bay,WI called Cabinet Masters. The paint color is also custom, but Sherwin Williams SW 7028, “Incredible White” is close. Backsplash: The tile is by Anne Sacks-a 3×5 crackle glaze subway tile. The pendants are Restoration Hardware.

Ceiling

The ceiling material used is traditional tongue and groove beadboard (not plywood). It is paint grade hardwood and two inches wide. According to the designer, this was a very high-end project, with quite detailed craftsmanship, and the individual tongue and groove boards give a more traditional look.

Family Room

The family room feels cozy and so close to the water. I love the windows.  They’re beautiful!

 Foyer

Formal yet welcoming. Wall color is Sherwin Williams-”misty”.

Light Fixture

the light fixture is from Home Depot.

Up

The floors are hand-scraped oak, with a slightly beveled edge. The stain is a water popped chocolate brown.

Mezzanine

This space is all about timeless architecture.

Details

Incredible!

Curves & Turns

I love seeing people getting creative, but I can’t own something like this in my house. I’d look at this every time I passed by and I’d probably forget about the stairs… :-)

Guest Bedroom

Lovely. I adore the plates on the wall.

Favorite Flowers

My favorites…

Built-In

Gorgeous furniture-like built-in.

Bedroom

The master is very spacious and has incredible views.

Wall color:  Sherwin-Williams Ancient Marble.

Floors

I love everything about this bathroom, especially the tiles– an octagon-dot, in satin finish, with dove gray grout. They’re by Daltile.

Bathroom

Bath is by Kohler, Wall Color: Sherwin Williams-Ancient Marble.

Shower Tiles

You can mix carrara marble with subway tiles to balance the expenses in a space.

Kids’ Bedroom

The desk is an antique piece purchased by the designer and the framed arts are nautical charts.

Balcony

The balcony from the master.

Blue

Beautiful architecture, beautiful view… perfect home!

For Two

Who would you like to share this swing with?

Thank you so much for being here today! :-)

Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and blessed week.

Share some positivity with the people you meet this week and remember to always let people you love know how important they are to you.

with Love,

Many are painted colors of the rainbow, but all are on stilts…Gulf Coast Beach House Exteriors.  Pink and salmon seem to be a favorite color of the ulf Coast region, unlike the classic gray and blue of the Pacific Northwest beaches.  Bright green and lavender were other popular colors.  The entire area has a tropical feel to it which I love.

Vacation Beach House Art & Accents

Cheerful Vacation Beach House Art & Accents

Our cheerful vacation beach house was a 90 minute drive from Pensacola International Airport.  Once you arrive you will find yourself in a dreamland of beachfront condos and stilted beach houses which are perched along the Gulf of Mexico.  Since last December’s weather in Gulf Shores, Alabama was so lovely we rented a red convertible Mustang for our stay. Temperatures in the high 60’s to low 70’s were combined with pure unadulterated sunshine most of the time during our 4 night visit.

The fine folks at Relax on the Beach provided us with a choice beach house that offered a view out onto the sparkling clear waters of the Gulf.  The bright, fun colors of the surrounding homes created an almost storybook scene each morning as we enjoyed coffee on the home’s front deck.   Lounged comfortably in the Adirondack chairs, it was difficult to get up and get going since we were so relaxed.  The fresh breezes combined with crashing waves made for a heavenly experience.

DEC 2012 VACATION 1006

As someone who enjoys peace and quiet, I found the area to be perfectly suited for our off-season visit.  We shared the unbelievable white sand beaches with few others during our time.  The sand is so different from my Pacific Northwest beach experiences.  The sand is so white in Gulf Shores that it looks like snow covering the ground. It is soft to stroll through and made my seashell hunting experience even more enjoyable.

Vacation Beach House Seashells

The Vacation Beach House was filled with bright and cheerful art and accents which made the home extra-special.  Some of our favorite home decor accents included…

Since the vacation home is situated on a long peninsula, it was about 13 miles to drive into town.  We used every chance possible to drive the convertible so we certainly didn’t mind the drive back and forth.  There is a grocery store, drug store, UPS store and miscellaneous stores for your shopping pleasure.  Drive up north a few miles and there is another large grocery as well as restaurants and boutique shops plus even a large movie theater   We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful granite kitchen, which we stocked with groceries and prepared the majority of our meals ourselves .  We enjoyed some great savings by eating at the home while watching the glorious sunsets.

Gulf Shores Vacation Home

We were pleased that the vacation house offered fluffy linens,  coffee maker, pots and pans and even soap and shampoo.  The only thing we didn’t bring, and wasn’t provided, was a blow dryer.  No big deal, just make a note to pack one when YOU visit.  Full size laundry facilities were very much appreciated after a day of beach-combing.

Relax on the Beach offers a wealth of rental opportunities so whether you are looking for a large beach house or small condo they can assist you.  Make sure to check out their off-season pricing for some wonderful savings!
