Purple is the color of passion - EverydayHealth.com

Our friends at EverydayHealth.com recently asked us to share this infographic with readers, well, because we all spend a lot of time in our bedroom and….you can figure out the other reason. A survey by a U.K. retailer found that some colors seem to inspire more sexual encounters than others – who knew?!

Purple Beach Bedroom Ideas

Purple is a beautiful color but how do you incorporate it into your Beach House Bedroom? How about dark purple walls with light furniture and bedding?

Red Beach Bedroom Ideas

It’s not necessary to paint all your walls red in order to get the passionate benefit of the hue.  Try pillow shams, duvets and accents!

If you love paint, then how about trying a red accent wall? I’ve actually done this in one of my home’s bedrooms and it was a very romantic room.  Make sure you take the time to test different red hues before painting.

Mix It Orange and Turquoise

Mix It! Tangerine Orange and Turquoise Aqua Color Palette

Color Palette: Tangerine Orange and Turquoise Aqua – This week, I want to show you a creative approach to combining different color combination for beach house decorating.  You have to be a little brave to pull it off, but I really like it – Tangerine Orange and Turquoise Aqua.   (heck, I like aqua mixed with anything – I treat it almost as a neutral color at my house!).

The colors of the sea, and the varying shades of sunrise and sunset. Perfect coastal mix don’t you think?  Bold, bright, and not one bit shy!

Here’s a few examples for you – maybe even something you could try at your house?

Check out this entry hallway from my friend  Driftwood Interiors. Don’t you just love her gorgeous coral aqua prints, matted with tangerine, and white frames?  Especially lovely the way that they are so artfully arranged (geometric) against a chocolate brown wall.

I love the whole composition of this space, the driftwood branches in a simple large clear vase, the natural sea fan… I just wish I had the right space to recreate this look!  (photo courtesy of Driftwood Interiors and Richard Rymwid Photography).

Or how about this cottage look?

Bright orange round coffee table, I am willing to bet it’s from Maine Cottage. Tangerine pillows, a pretty linen lamp shade and hints of yellow with pops of aqua in the bar stools and in the fun mirror behind the kitchen sink!  (Image courtesy of Coastal Living Magazine)

P.S. What a great way to have the view of the outside reflected in the kitchen!

Can’t help it, I just think that this is such a happy beach house space! Pretty painted orange wall, highlighted by bright white storage pieces, and a fun mix of pillows and aqua accents. (image courtesy of House Beautiful)

Where to get started?  Must decide which pillows, and which accents I need…..

Pillows!

Distressed Oars…. I especially like these with the little rope accent.

Lime Tones Color Palette

Color Palette: Lime Green Tones

Lime green is a color three-quarters of the way between yellow and green (closer to yellow than to green), so named because it is a representation of the color of the citrus fruit called lime. It is the color that is half way between the web color chartreuse and yellow on the color wheel.  Lime combines well with many beachy blue hues and is especially lovely in combination with a bright white.

Surprisingly, this modern color was referred to in the English language as far back as 1890.

When choosing a color scheme, select one dominant color, a secondary color and a third accent color. In this case, it’s chartreuse, white and yellow.  ~Amy Lau Design, Beach House Bridgehampton

This room is full of maritime style and is  made fresh with green accent pillows.

Why not include a small sampling of the nautical trend in an unexpected place like a closet?

Are you afraid of color? Glass floats are a subtle way to introduce green into your home.

Why not try some green artwork and/or pillows?  In this example, the green pulls in the colors of nature from outside!

Are you Green with envy now? I am!

A Coastal Summer: Beach Tones Color Palette

Welcome back to the last day of our “A Coastal Summer” week of articles.  I thought we’d wrap things up with this divine Beach Tones color palette from our friends at Design-Seeds.com.  Our handy-dandy Chip It! application from Sherwin Williams has provided us with the paint/colors needed to create this palette in the real world.

Soft greyish white and sandy hues take you to the seashore when used on your home’s interior walls or floors.  Accent your surroundings with shades of blue and throw in a pop of deep red for visual interest.  I personally love to use black to “ground” things in my interior designs but any darker shade, such as the polished mahogany hue above, will do the trick.

Let’s give it a try…

It’s amazing how many different styles can be created by using one basic palette.   Depending on your preference, you can create a modern beach home space or a cozy cottage feel.  Experiment with colors, fabrics, textures when decorating – you won’t be sorry!

So, which room above is your favorite space?

Have a fabulous weekend.

Pink fabric wing back chairs

Color Palette: Feathered Pink

Goodness me, I can’t believe how long it’s been since I featured a new color palette.  This pink palette caught my eye and I love how fun it is for summer.  Pink is such a versatile color that can be used as both a neutral or a bright pop of zing in a space!

Soft and subtle in a master bedroom….

Bold pink in a living room…

Pink patterned wing back chairs…

And matching pink in the dining room too!

Pink is still the classic color for every little girl’s room…

Oh, so bold pink was used with black and white in this bathroom…

Sweet and simple used with cottage white…

An eclectic mix is full of pink delight!

Carefully selected pink accents look beautiful in this coastal-themed living room…

Color Palette: Seaside Chic

seaside chic color palette

Meet Mr. Bazaar…a fabulous young lad who has so much style that it oozes out of his pores.   He recently featured this lovely seaside chic color palette on his popular blog, Bright.Bazaar so we just “had” to make sure you were able to enjoy it too.  Mr. Bazaar is  from the UK, in his twenties and has a thing for color – sounds like a great fellow, don’t you agree?

“By mixing in your modern pieces with vintage finds you can add texture and depth to the scheme. Take this armchair, for example. Yes, it has a classic blue and white stripe fabric but then reclaimed chair legs give the piece so much more interest than standard legs. Meanwhile, a collection of found glassware mixed in with new buys creates a stylish vignette upon the light mint sideboard.” ~ Mr. Bazaar

I don’t think I’d change anything about this palette…even the brown is a lovely milk chocolate hue that balances all the blue.

What about you? Are you a fan of this seaside color palette?
